Afghans for Afghans collects hand-knit and crocheted wool hats, mittens, socks, sweaters, and vests for Afghan children ages 1 - 5 years.
Precious Pals
The Knitting Guild of America's program to knit bears and sweaters for children in crisis. Site includes a free Precious Pals sweater and pants pattern.
Project Linus
Project Linus accepts handmade, machine washable blankets for children in need. Since 1997 volunteers have supplied over 400,000 security blankets worldwide. Uniquities, our local yarn shop in Vienna VA, is a drop off point for your contributions.
Red Scarf Project
The Red Scarf Project is a project established by the Orphan Foundation of America. It provides red scarves (knitted or crocheted) as a part of care packages delivered to orphans attending college.
Special Forces
Special Knitting Forces is an organization dedicated to bringing comfort to civilians during wartime, especially to the babies and children. Their goal is to knit a million sweaters that will bring both a sense of warmth and caring to the littlest of innocent victims in Afghanistan.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross has put an Acrobat version of some of its "classic" patterns on their web site. The site also includes an article on the history of the Production Corps, which was founded in 1916.
Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children
Fairfax Hospital needs all types of preemie, baby, and other items: hats, booties, mittens, bed socks, blankets (30"x30" and crib size), finger puppets, sweater saques/sweaters, edging on receiving blankets, lap blankets, shawls. The items are provided FREE to infants, children, and their parents. More information can be obtained at Care Wear.
Stitches from the Heart
Stitches from the Heart is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that sends handmade clothing, blankets, and love to premature babies all across the nation. They also have a senior program that helps seniors help others by donating yarn and supplies. Patterns are available on their site.
